Top grain leather is made from the top or outermost layer of a hide, allowing for fewer imperfections as the entire hide is used organically without altering the surface. Our manufacturers only use top grain leather to ensure your furniture is durable and remains beautiful throughout its lifetime.
Each manufacturer offers several grades of top-grain leather. The grade of leather is determined by several factors, similar to how diamonds are graded. Leather grades indicate the level of protection and maintenance it has, which can be important when making a long-term investment for your lifestyle but does not affect the durability of the furniture.
Always follow the manufacturers’ recommendation for cleaning. In general, a neutral PH cleanser diluted in water is sufficient to keep your leather looking great. Special attention, including more frequent cleaning, should be given to areas where there is more skin contact with the leather. Hair products, lotions, and skin oils will chemically attack the finish on the leather.
Leather is natural skin. It has elasticity and will soften and relax as you sit in it and with use. All leathers will stretch, and in most cases, they will not return to their original shape. This is a natural characteristic of genuine top grain leather and is NOT a defect. This does not affect the wear of the leather but does increase the comfort!
Leather cutting experts carefully examine each hide to determine where each part of a hide should be placed. The front of upholstered furniture is typically kept more uniform, with subtle natural markings. But the back, sides, and under-cushion areas offer the opportunity to include more unique markings. This is just part of the natural beauty of leather and does not reduce the strength or performance of the leather.
